Whois / RDAP Lookup

About this calculator
See registrar, status flags, creation and expiry dates, and nameservers for a domain name. Paste a hostname; the tool queries public RDAP and returns a short summary plus raw JSON when the registry answers the request.
Contact privacy redaction follows each registry’s policy, so registrant email and phone may be hidden. RDAP is the modern JSON replacement for classic port-43 Whois; a few TLDs still lag, rate-limit, or return thin data only.
Availability for purchase is not guaranteed from a missing record alone. Premium and reserved names can still fail at checkout — always re-check on a registrar cart before you pay. Status codes like clientTransferProhibited are normal lock flags, not proof the name is broken. Keep a short note of the inputs you used so you can compare later runs.
How It Works & Formula
Normalize the domain string, query the RDAP bootstrap for that name, then summarize registration and expiration events, registrar entities, nameserver list, and status codes from the JSON response when HTTP 200 returns an object. HTTP 404 from RDAP usually means no registration object; other errors may be rate limits or unsupported TLDs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is RDAP the same as Whois?
RDAP is the modern JSON replacement for port-43 Whois. Many registries answer RDAP; a few still lag.
Why are contacts redacted?
GDPR and registry privacy services hide personal contact fields. Status and dates usually remain visible.
Can I use this to see if a domain is free?
A missing registration object is a first filter only. Confirm on a registrar before paying.
