How It Works & Formula
The tool first estimates maximum heart rate by subtracting age from 220, or by using the refined Gellish or Tanaka formulas. When resting heart rate is provided, it applies the Karvonen method to calculate heart rate reserve and scales target intensities across five standard percentage bands from 50% to 100%. Without resting pulse data, the zones are calculated directly as straight percentages of estimated maximum heart rate.
